Land Code Amendments
The Council, on the recommendation of the Land Management Committee, is proposing changes to the Land Code to make the law more effective for Members, Residents, and potential investors in Tsawout Lands, and to improve Tsawout’s ability to manage its lands.
The Eligible Voters of Tsawout need to vote to approve these changes. A Ratification Vote is being proposed for July 5, 2017 at the same time of the Chief & Council vote.

The Land Code Amendments will go to a vote proposed for July 5, 2017.
The Residential Tenancy Law is being finalized and will await the return of our housing staff person, and the Community Land Disposition Law has been recently enacted by Council following the community consultation.
Residential Tenancy Law
The preamble of the Residential Tenancy Law [the “Law”] is based on other SȾÁUTW law preambles. It identifies SȾÁUTW’s inherent jurisdiction to enact laws and the authority for Council under the Land Code to enact a law on residential tenancy.

Community Land Disposition Law
Council, on the recommendation of the Land Management Committee, is proposing a new law: the SȾÁUTW̱ First Nation ÁLEṈENEȻ TŦE (Community Land) Disposition Law (the “Law”).
Why is this Law being proposed?
Tsawout’s Land Code requires that rules be established before any interests or licences in Community (Band) Land can be given to Members or others. The types of interests or licences in Community (Band) Land could include Permanent Interests, Residential Allocations, Leases, Rights of Way, and Licences (e.g., Billboards).
