Job Description:

Position: Infant/Toddler Educator
Reports to: Manager of Education
Hours of Work: Monday - Friday (9:00 am - 4:30 pm)

Under direction of the Day Care Manager the Early Childhood Educator will work directly within the Early Childhood Program, as part of the team assisting with the daily operation and delivery of child care services, along with providing care and creative programming for children in a group setting.


To work as an Infant/Toddler Educator in the Infant/Toddler Program.

  • Develop & implement activities in our early childhood setting for children between 0-3 years.
  • Responsible for planning and organizing activities that protect & promote the children’s intellectual, physical, social & emotional growth.
  • Ensure that all children are treated with respect & that the program meets their individual developmental needs.
  • Follow & maintain daily routines & shift schedules.
  • Ability to build trust & communicate daily with parents regarding various aspects of care for their children.
  • Act as a role model of appropriate behavior.
  • Work with a team of educators to deliver an enriched infant/toddler program.
  • Attend & contribute to monthly staff meetings.
  • Be aware of program ratio & provide supervision to at least 4 children throughout the day.

Preferred Skills:


  • Must have license to practice Early Childhood Education & license to practice in infant toddler.
  • One to two years experience in the field an asset.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office & internet applications.
  • CPR & First Aid Certificates required.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License preferred.
  • Must have supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of subsidy & its process.
  • Knowledge & experience of similar program delivery in the context of Tsawout culture & history.
  • Effective written & verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to use tact & good judgment in dealing with sensitive & complex issues.
  • Ability to maintain & follow strict confidentiality guidelines of all records, materials & communications concerning client, staff and Tsawout First Nation.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check.
