C-FIT Training - Students and Youth

Attention all Tsawout Students and Youth up to 22 years!  Are you interested in earning a living in the Commercial Fishing Industry? 

C-FIT (Commercial Fishing Indigenous Students Training) is designed to make First Nation Youth ready for Commercial Fishing.

  • Reconnecting with Coast Salish way of life.
  • Program based on entry-level Transport Canada Certification.
  • Includes real-life experience with commercial vessels, commercial dockside activities, and commercial gear.
  • Program blends traditional fishing knowledge with modern commercial fishing practices.
  • Program supports transition to employment as a deckhand on a commercial vessel.
  • Program helps students meet graduation requirements.

Notice of Vote: Custom Election Law

Please note that the Vote for the Custom Election Law has been cancelled.



TAKE NOTICE that the Ratification Vote scheduled to take place on February 4-5, 2015 to determine if Eligible Voters approve adopting the proposed Tsawout First Nation Custom Election Law has been cancelled.

The Council of the Tsawout First Nation has decided to carry out additional community consultation before Eligible Voters are asked to vote on whether the approve the law.

All mail-in ballots received by the Ratification Office will be destroyed to ensure that confidentiality of the voter is maintanined.


39th Annual BC Elders Gathering

Tsawout First Nation and the W̱SÁNEĆ Nations are proud to be hosting the 39th Annual BC Elders Gathering on July 7th to 9th, 2015. We anticipate hosting up to 5,000 Elder’s and other visitors during this event. The Gathering will be held primarily at the Panorama Leisure Centre and the event is to honour and give thanks to our Elders.


Custom Election Law Update

Tsawout First Nation Custom Election Law Update: 
Currently elections of Tsawout Chief and Council are conducted pursuant to the Indian Act and its Regulations. Chief and Council would like to remove the Nation from the Indian Act provisions and adopt a Custom Election Law that better reflects the customs and needs of the Nation.

What will change?


Heath & Recreation Grants 2015

Just a reminder that proof of residency is needed for Health & Recreation Grant applications. Any of the following will be accepted:

  • Hydro bill
  • Phone bill
  • Cable bill
  • Revenue Canada child tax papers.  

Grant Application

 The mail that you hand in has to have your name on it. You have to be a Canadian resident to be eligible for the grant.  Handing in ID from the United States is not acceptable and you will not be eligible for the grant.

Congratulations to the Tsawout Chief & Council and to everyone who participated, and for getting your families out to VOTE!  This was definitely the highest number of votes cast in any election -- so proud of our community.  

Thank you to Cathy Webster and Denise Kelly for your part as the Deputy Officers!We are also happy to say that the Land Code amendments and Membership Law has passed with 197 YES for Land Code Amendments  (72 No), and 215 YES for the Membership Law (55 No).
