Position Title: Lands Officer Job Posting

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Lands Manager, the Lands Officer processes all Tsawout Lands Referrals, assists the Lands Manager where necessary in the associated duties of managing and developing land laws, environmental management plans, operational policies & procedures according to the current priorities of the Tsawout Land Management Committee/Tsawout Council. Provides monthly reporting for activities. Provides backup service to the land registry administration.

  • Assists the Lands Manager in all facets of Lands Management where necessary such as research for law development, environmental assessments, procedures, land use management policy, land referrals, operational work planning & evaluation and budgeting
  • Assists as back up to land registry as necessary with lands registry, assignment of subleases, land transfers, registry of surveys, mortgages, other land transactions according to the national First Nations Land Registry policy;
  • Assists the Lands Manager with functions relating to land use planning, environmental assessments or reviews, land surveys, land referrals; and informs band members in liasing with INAC about wills and estates
  • Acts as the Tsawout Lands Manager in the absence of the Manager and performs other duties as required by the Lands Manager;

JOB POSTING - Homemaker / Adult Care Services

POSITION: Homemaker/Adult Care Services HOURS OF WORK: Casual on-call REPORTS TO: Adult/Elder’ Care Coordinator or designate

POSITION SUMMARY: This position reports to the Adult/Elder’ Care Coordinator and will work with Tsawout community member Adults/Elders, to provide homemaker services, assist with household tasks and provide transportation.


Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Plan and cook nutritional meals
  • Sweep, vacuum or mop kitchen and living room floors
  • Clean kitchen and living room areas
  • Clean washrooms and mop bathroom floors as required
  • Wash dishes and help keep fridge and cupboards clean
  • Assist with minor household repairs
  • Client transportation, i.e., to the grocery store, pharmacy, medical appointments, and at times to community/Elder gatherings within the community/ies.
  • Assist with laundry
  • Report unsafe conditions or client concerns to supervisor.
  • Keep and maintain a client schedule and submit on a bi-weekly basis (along with timesheets)
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate respect for client rights, dignity, and self worth at all times.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-house training as requested
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Tsawout policies and procedures, and as directed by the Supervisor (leave in or take out)

Health & Recreation Grant Cheques will be distributed on WEDNESDAY, May 27 in the gym from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.  If your cheque is not picked up by Friday May 29th, they will be mailed out on Monday June 1, 2015.

The Victoria Foundation has launched its 10th annual Victoria’s Vital Signs Survey, Greater Victoria’s annual check-up. Please take the survey and share what you love – and what you think are our region’s most pressing issues. Survey responses and local indicators are combined into a report that is used by local politicians, charities and non-profits, and community leaders and decision-makers. Take the survey by July 1 and you could win one of several gift certificates to local restaurants!

Notice of Nomination Meeting

Notice is hereby given that a meeting of the electors of the Tsawout First Nation will be held in the Tsawout First Nation Multipurpose Room, 7728 Tetayut Road, Saanichton, B.C. on the 20th day of May, 2015, beginning at 4:30 o’clock P.M. and lasting for at least three hours, for the purpose of nominating a Chief and candidates for positions on the Band Council of the said Band for the next ensuing term. EIGHT (8) Councillor Positions and ONE (1) position for Chief are available. The election will be held at The Tsawout First Nation Multipurpose Room, 7728 Tetayut Road, Saanichton, B.C. on July 2, 2015

Please note that any Elector may nominate candidates by using a mail-in nomination form. Electors residing off-reserve may nominate or run as a candidate for the position of Chief and Council. You can either deliver or mail-in written nomination forms and completed, signed and witnessed voter declaration forms to the electoral officer before the time set for the nomination meeting OR you may nominate candidates orally at the nomination meeting. Mailed nominations not received by the electoral officer before the time set for the nomination meeting are void. Also note that any voter may vote by mail-in ballot.

All Tsawout First Nation Members, 18 years or older, are eligible to vote in the election.
