Land Claims Action

E-mail Print PDF

It has become apparent through legal consultations that we require a new mapping survey to collect data from the Tsawout People about our Use and Occupancy of our territorial lands and waters. We need to record, document and map our own Tsawout Sites for Hunting, Fishing, Clam digging and plant harvesting for food and medicines, Village and Cultural Sites, campsites, Reef net fishing sites, burial grounds and egg harvesting sites. Any of our people that has done these or other related things must be interviewed, recorded and have their information documented and transferred to maps for possible use in court and/or negotiations against BC and/or Canada. If you have done any of these activities in your lifetime or know any of these things, through your parents or Grandparents, your information is valuable to the future of Tsawout.  We must establish that we have had and do, have continuous use and occupancy over all the lands and resources in our territory.

We will have personal agreements before any interviews take place, that every person is the owner of their information and cannot be used or shared without their express and informed permission.

We are searching out new avenues of funding to support this project.
