Membership Vote Update

E-mail Print PDF

March 7, 2013

Dear Respected Elders & Members;
Re: Update on Membership Law & Land Code Amendments Vote &
Second Vote Date: June 25th (same day as Chief & Council vote)

HISWKE SIIAM to all families who practiced their democratic right to vote. We appreciate your support and we will need you and your family to vote once again on June 25th, 2013. It is disappointing that we were short a few voters to pass the Membership Law & Land Code Amendments. However, we did have very positive support on these two important issues. Here’s a summary of the vote that recently took place on February 21 and 22:

Land Code Amendments Vote:

Yes Votes 162
No Votes 33
Rejected Ballots 13 (could not be counted in overall vote due to no voter declaration in mail in ballot)

Membership Law Vote:

Yes Votes 177
No Votes 17
Rejected Ballots 13 (could not be counted in overall vote due to no voter declaration in mail in ballot)

We needed 264 overall to vote and 195 voted as 13 mail in ballots were rejected. We needed 133 yes votes on each. We were short 69 for the overall quorum.

Attached is the Certification of Vote and a list of the winners for the door prizes. We are holding Information Sessions on the Membership Law and Amendments to the Land Code on the following dates. Call us or come out if you need questions answered, info sessions held at the Old Council Chambers:

March 19th   6pm -  8pm  Refreshments
April 18th   2pm -  4pm   Refreshments May   29th   10am -12pm  Refreshments
June  12th   3pm – 5pm  Seafood Feast at 5pm

Please watch for more info on the upcoming Votes!

Respectfully submitted, Gwen Underwood, on behalf of Tsawout Lands
