Water Walk Update

E-mail Print PDF

Thank you to Team Tsawout lead by Team Captain, Tabita Marks along with participants, Lillian Underwood, Sene Underwood, Asheya Underwood, Pastor Hugh Marks, Sophina Jimmy, Dora Thomas, Gwen Underwood walked around UVIC, carrying 10 liter pails of water (one per team). This symbolized the daily trek to the river that many women and children in Africa must make every day to get water. Elder Patty and Chief Harvey welcomed all of the participants at UVIC and commented that it wasn't too long ago our own people were carrying water from the wells. After walking 4km with the water pail it made us really appreciate the clean drinking water we have fresh from our water taps! Thanks to our bus driver, Perry LaFortune, who got our team safely to and from the UVIC water walk.

Positively AFRICA (pA), a project of VIDEA, in collaboration with the University of Victoria African Awareness Club hosted the 3rd Annual Water Walk on May 11th, 2013. This event raises awareness about local and global water issues and is a fundraiser to support water trucks, wells, and other projects in Kenya.
