Environmental Management Plan

E-mail Print PDF

The environmental management plan (EMP) is a plan to protect and improve environmental quality on Tsawout lands. Environmental concerns have been brought forth from the community and from previous work conducted in the contaminated sites remediation work conducted from 2003-2011. Understanding these concerns and developing an EMP will help protect the environment by developing laws, regulations, policies, best practices, and community education.

Royal Roads & Kingfisher Environmental A group of five individuals from the Royal Roads University, Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, are working with Tsawout First Nation to develop the Environmental Management Plan. This is a result of the Tsawout First Nation decision to opt out of the Land Management Section of the Indian Act, which now makes Tsawout responsible for creating laws for managing Tsawout Lands. Each University student has a varied background in environmental science. The diverse environmental background of each team member, as well as the knowledge gained through the University program, allows the team to provide informed, educational input regarding environmental concerns. By working with youth and the community, the team will assist Tsawout to identify various environmental issues and develop appropriate responses to address them. With the continued partnership of Royal Roads University the long term goal is to address all of the environmental concerns on Tsawout Lands.
