The North American Indigenous Games 2014 will be held in Regina, Saskatchewan. So far the recreation department has helped the interested youth try out for the BC Lacrosse Team. From our community, Ambrose Underwood, Landon Underwood and Shyquinton Charlie will be representing the 16 & U Lacrosse Team BC in 2014. Softball try-outs were held in Surrey on August 24, 2013.

Summer Youth Camp

July & August have been busy months for the recreation department. The Summer Youth Camp (13-18 year olds), field trips and workshops have kept the youth occupied. We had a fun time this summer with the activities that Katelyn and Chris have been coordinating! The highlight of the summer program was the Vancouver trip, which entailed a University of British Columbia (UBC) tour, camp over at the Vancouver Zoo, and the Vancouver Needle Exchange Youth Tour.

Coast Salish Games

Our department worked under tight deadlines to put together the 16th Annual Coast Salish Games on August 6 - 8, 2013. The highlighted sports were soccer, ball hockey, basketball, cross-country and lacrosse. There were over 300 youth in attendance, which ended with a Youth Dance hosted by the WSANEC Youth Group & Mike Sheehan. It featured Yellow Wolf and Addie Elliott and their new hit "Re-Educate".

Youth Coaching

Anyone interested in getting involved with coaching the youth, please let Bonnie Joe or the front desk know. We would like to have community members become involved in coaching a sport you love. We want to start a list of interested community members in order to have training brought into our community.
