November 2013 Recreation Update

E-mail Print PDF

During the summer months, teenage youth participated in a youth camp designed for them! The camp ran from noon and until 5-6pm. They visited much of the Victoria area, sports days, swimming at the pool and the lake, Vancouver Zoo (camping), Vancouver Needle Exchange Program, Youth Empowerment Conference at Tigh-Na-Mara Resort hosted by Intertribal Health Authority. In September the youth visited PKOLS, Beacon Hill Park, Ogden Point, and the Shamrocks vs. 6 Nations Mann Cup play-off game.

These field trips are building strong connections with the youth in the community and open the conversation and ideas youth have with issues they face and to hear their every day stories and experiences. Chris Jim, our Youth Peer and Mike Sheehan, Youth Mentor, are fundraising for more activities outside the community and for the Halloween Dance on Oct 29, 2013 (5pm - 9pm). We will also pull together other Youth Workers in the community to collaborate and enhance our current programs.
