Learning House December Update

E-mail Print PDF

LH webI want to acknowledge persons who have supported the Tsawout Learning House this Fall 2013. The W.O.P ladies have been a wonderful addition to help all the students and staff. The support of Maggie Bill, Crystal Morris and Jolene Joe is very much appreciated and we will thoroughly miss them when their program ends on December 5th. They have had an opportunity to substitute at the Learning House. Other new people on our substitute list are Rachel Pelkey and Kyle Henry. Please see me if you would like to substitute. I have a form for you to fill out and a criminal record check will need to be completed at the Sidney R.C.M.P. Office.  A big thank you to Alicia Underwood and Mary Walkus for choosing to do their Work Experience at T.L.H. and our elder volunteers, Syble and Rose-Mary who will be taking a Winter break and returning in the Spring.

Tina Pierik, Vice-Principal of Stelly's continues to support learners of TSAWOUT First Nation by sending Teacher Tutors from UVic on Monday and Wednesday. They are available for Math or Science tutoring at 4:00 pm. Please come and utilize this support if you need help.

November 8th was another Non-Instructional Day and students participated in S.T.E.M. Camp for the morning. Just a reminder: Tsawout Learning House is open on N.I.D. from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm and on early dismissal days we open 1 hour early. Next early dismissal for KELSET Elementary School is December 5th at 1:48 pm.

Mrs. Adams will be on Winter Vacation December 9th - 13th. If you wish to volunteer during that week, please let me know.

LH web2With the season changing the students are working on more Christmas and Winter activities to be successful in their reading, writing and math skills. School First Nations Support staff  have notified me about students not bringing and doing homework. At Tsawout Learning House homework is our priority, so please encourage your child to bring it and receive support at T.L.H. rather than taking it home and forgetting to return it to school.

T.L.H. staff and students look forward to seeing family, relatives and friends at the Tsawout Community Christmas Gathering and Dinner with Santa.
