SENCOTEN Language Project

E-mail Print PDF
We are still awaiting written approval on our Language Submission to the FederalGovernment, before moving forward. Our Submission to the First Peoples Cultural Foundation for the BC Language Initiative was not successful. We are still trying to get a meeting with Deanna Daniels, the Coordinator, to find out the reasons for denial. We have a few other SENCOTEN Language funding submissions to other sources still in the works. The aim of the TDTEWG is to combine SENCOTEN lessons with Tsawout History, Culture and Traditional Uses of our Territory. In this way they feel the people of Tsawout will get a better grasp of who we are and better understanding and knowledge of our Territory.

They feel this must become a Community wide initiative.

Hopefully we will be able to use the summer student program to carry out and SENCOTEN Language assessment in Tsawout to document;

* the number of SENCOTEN speakers,
* people with partial SENCOTEN speaking and understanding,
* People with little or no understanding but wish to learn.

We hope we then can bring the results to a General Meeting to present and hopefully get some community support especially from our knowledge holders.
