JOB POSTING - Band Social Development Worker

Under the direction of the Finance Controller, the Social Development Worker is responsible for keeping accurate records and files of all clients and assisting clients in social assistance applications and related tasks. Incumbent must be able to work within budget, have very good knowledge and understanding of AANDC policies, be very organized and be able to work well in a very client centered program.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Inform clients of their rights and responsibilities as it pertains to the Social Development Policies and Procedures and assist clients with completing all new applicant income assistance documentation.
  2.  Ensure that all client files are maintained and that all client files, forms and related documentation are completed on a daily basis for audit compliance purposes and in accordance with the Social Development Polices.
  3. On an annual basis, archive previous years’ filing and create new files for current year.
  4. Enter new application calculations into Paydirt and create Budget and Decision (B&D) forms. Revise forms as required.
  5. Refer all income assistance matters for Social Development Worker’s immediate family to the Supervisor.
  6. Distribute Social Assistance cheques to clients on a monthly basis, or as required, and complete appropriate documentation.
  7. Develop and maintain a bring-forward system using an email calendar for payment of hydro bills, PWD expiration dates, PPMB expiration dates and Child Out of Parental Home dates.
  8. Refer community member’ questions or concerns related to child and family service matters to the appropriate internal department or external agency. Advise details of the concern/matter to the Supervisor.
  9. Maintain good working relationships with Tsawout managers and departments, and other First Nation bands and organizations.
  10. Prepare cheque requisitions for monthly food cards and distributes cards as per the approved sign out sheet.
  11. Prepare annual reports for National Child Tax Benefit and Statistical Report prior to the AANDC (INAC) deadline.
  12. Participate in seminars, workshops and training programs to upgrade skills and knowledge relevant to the position.
  13. Perform other related duties as required.

Education/Experience requirements:

  • Certificate in Social Work and completion of Band Social Worker training modules.
  • Five years of social work or related experience, preferably in a First Nations community. Key Competencies:

  • Ability to deal with stressful situations and remain calm during conflict.
  • High standard of ethics and ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.

  • Proven ability to work independently and effectively prioritize work flow.
